A heat pump needs a hot water cylinder with an enlarged coil. The coil of an ordinary cylinder, made for a gas boiler, is too small for the lower temperature the heat pump works at.

Why not just any cylinder will do
A gas boiler sends water at 70–80 °C through the coil. A heat pump sends water at 50–55 °C, to stay efficient. At that temperature difference, a coil of 1 square metre transfers far too little heat, and the cylinder no longer heats up in time.
The cylinders we supply have coils of 3 square metres (200 litres) and 4 square metres (300 litres), sized for the way a heat pump works.
